United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) has been honored as a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon company by the Minnesota National Guard, underscoring U.S. Steel’s ongoing dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace environment for veterans. U.S. Steel’s Minnesota Ore Operations marked this achievement with an official proclamation event held on June 27.
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is a program designed to maintain a robust network of community and corporate support, linking agencies, organizations, and resources to meet the needs of Minnesota’s military veterans, service members, and their families across all branches. By earning official certification as a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon business, U.S. Steel demonstrates its commitment to facilitating successful transitions into the workforce for veterans and employees affected by military service. In 2023, veterans comprised 12 percent of U.S. Steel’s new hires.
“Being designated a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon company underscores our ongoing support for military veterans and their families,” said Travis Kolari, Head of Operations, Minnesota Ore Operations Processing for U.S. Steel. “We want all current and prospective employees to understand that we strive daily to provide an exceptional workplace that values inclusion and teamwork for every team member.”
U.S. Steel has established Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to cultivate environments where employees feel valued and included. The SERVE ERG specifically supports active reservists and veterans of the armed forces.
Jason Taliaferro, SERVE ERG President and U.S. Steel Director of Sales, played a key role in securing Beyond the Yellow Ribbon recognition for the Minnesota Ore SERVE chapter. “As a 23-year veteran, I deeply appreciate U.S. Steel’s recognition of military service and am proud of our company’s commitment to supporting the veteran community,” said Taliaferro. “U.S. Steel provides an environment where service members can thrive, and receiving the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon honor is a testament to that commitment.”
“Through this ERG, we continue to offer vital support to service members and their families,” said Mona Dine, Chief Diversity Officer for U.S. Steel. “Their efforts on behalf of our service members, combined with our steadfast dedication to an inclusive workplace, were instrumental in earning the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon distinction.”
