Mitsubishi Chemical Group Expands Optical Film Production Facility for Polarizing Plates

The Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG) has announced plans to expand the production facility for its OPL Film™, an optical polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) film, at the Central Japan-Ogaki (Kanda) Plant in Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The upgraded facility is expected to commence operations in the second half of FY2027.

OPL Film™ is primarily used in polarizing plates for televisions and other liquid crystal displays. As demand for larger liquid crystal display screens grows, the need for OPL Film™ is also on the rise. To meet this increasing demand and higher quality requirements, MCG is expanding its production capabilities.

The new facility will offer enhanced quality and productivity, featuring the largest single-line production capacity within the MCG Group at 27 million square meters per year. Once the expansion is complete, MCG’s total production capacity will reach 154 million square meters annually.
