ION Clean Energy and Koch Engineered Solutions Enhance Partnership for Carbon Capture Projects

Building on the positive customer response from their successful collaboration initiated in 2022, ION Clean Energy (ION) and Koch Engineered Solutions (KES) have announced an expansion of their joint offering for technology-driven, cost-effective post-combustion carbon capture projects. This enhanced collaboration combines ION’s industry-leading capture technology with the proprietary mass transfer and separation equipment from Koch-Glitsch, a division of Koch Engineered Solutions.

Under this agreement, Koch-Glitsch will supply specialized equipment for ION’s capture projects, designed to optimize ION’s process and ensure peak performance of its innovative carbon capture technology while minimizing costs and physical footprint. This expanded partnership strengthens a key segment of the equipment supply chain, facilitating a more accurate design and cost assessment early in the process. As a result, customers are more likely to achieve timely positive final investment decisions, benefiting the carbon capture market.

“Partnering with Koch Engineered Solutions, known for their excellence in design and innovation, enables our customers to fully leverage our best-in-class technology, reducing costs and maximizing the value of their carbon capture investments,” said Tim Vail, CEO of ION. “The expansion of our partnership with KES reflects strong confidence in ION’s technology. With our increased commercial activity, the market clearly recognizes this potential. We are excited about our ongoing growth and appreciate KES’s commitment to being part of ION’s future.”

Dan Haycook, President of the Equipment Technology & Services Group at Koch Engineered Solutions, commented, “We believe ION Clean Energy possesses groundbreaking carbon capture technology. We are excited that our mass transfer and separation equipment will play a crucial role in unlocking this innovative offering for the carbon capture market.”

The agreement between ION and KES also allows the partners to utilize onsite vessel fabrication through Koch Specialty Plant Services (KSPS), a Koch Engineered Solutions business. KSPS’s extensive field fabrication experience can further mitigate risks related to cost, process, and construction performance. Since most large-scale commercial plants require onsite vessel fabrication, having an integrated partner with industry-leading expertise enhances confidence in the constructability review and schedule assurance in the early phases of projects.
