H.B. Fuller Company (NYSE: FUL), the world’s largest pure-play adhesives manufacturer, has announced the acquisition of HS Butyl Limited (HS Butyl), the leading UK producer and distributor of high-quality butyl tapes. These tapes are known for their strong, permanent, watertight seals, serving various sectors including construction, infrastructure, automotive, and renewable energy. This acquisition supports H.B. Fuller’s strategic goal of achieving a 20 percent adjusted EBITDA margin within the next three to five years and enhances its presence in the $15 billion global waterproofing tape market, which encompasses butyl tape technologies.
In 2022, H.B. Fuller expanded its butyl tape technology platform with the acquisition of GSSI Sealants Inc., a North American manufacturer known for its butyl tape portfolio. The addition of HS Butyl enables H.B. Fuller to leverage these advancements and its global distribution network to extend HS Butyl’s innovative technologies into Europe, a market that is twice as large as North America for waterproofing tapes.
H.B. Fuller President and CEO Celeste Mastin commented, “This acquisition strengthens our footprint in the European waterproofing tape market, enhancing our service to existing customers and broadening our market relevance. HS Butyl’s cutting-edge technology complements and enhances our current butyl product line for Construction Adhesives. It also presents new opportunities in the Engineering Adhesives market, given the technology’s application in various high-value sectors. We are excited to harness our innovation capabilities, talent, and expertise to drive growth and deliver valuable solutions to our global customers.”
Founded in 1964 and based in Lymington, England, HS Butyl is a family-owned business specializing in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of butyl tapes. With annual sales exceeding $23 million, HS Butyl exports to over 50 countries. It will now operate under H.B. Fuller’s Construction Adhesives global business unit.
