ERI Opens Cutting-Edge Alkaline Battery Recycling Facility in Indiana

ERI, the leading provider of IT and electronics asset disposition (ITAD) and cybersecurity-focused hardware destruction services in the United States, has announced the launch of its inaugural alkaline battery recycling facility. Located within ERI’s 315,000 square-foot e-waste recycling and ITAD center in Plainfield, Indiana, the new plant is equipped to handle millions of pounds of alkaline batteries annually using ERI’s proprietary clean technology. The company plans to further expand by opening additional alkaline battery recycling facilities across the U.S. starting in 2025.

ERI is also equipped to manage alkaline battery logistics and accept batteries at all eight of its locations: Arizona, California, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, Texas, and Washington.

John Shegerian, ERI Co-Founder, Chairman, and CEO, expressed his enthusiasm about the new development, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce this significant enhancement to ERI’s offerings. Our cutting-edge alkaline battery recycling process not only eliminates waste but also supports a circular economy, producing clean commodity outputs and fostering a truly circular ecosystem. This new service complements our existing e-waste, end-of-life, and asset management solutions.”

Shegerian further highlighted that the plant can process all types of alkaline batteries. “It’s deeply satisfying to offer a responsible recycling option that helps individuals and businesses keep toxins out of landfills,” he added.

ERI stands as the largest fully integrated IT and electronics asset disposition provider and cybersecurity-focused hardware destruction company in the U.S. The company holds top-level certifications from leading environmental and data security organizations, ensuring the environmentally responsible de-manufacture, recycling, and refurbishment of electronic devices. ERI is the first in its industry to achieve carbon neutrality across all its facilities and holds ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certifications for security and data protection. With the capability to process over a billion pounds of electronic waste annually, ERI serves every U.S. zip code through its eight certified locations.
