The milestone aims to enhance partnerships with mining companies that have been steadfast supporters of the project since its inception, aiming to strengthen and promote regional employment and human capital. These partnerships are intended to elevate the Empleo Regional employability project as a crucial platform for fostering stronger connections between labor supply and demand, thereby enhancing access to the labor market.
In a collaborative effort between public and private sectors, the Empleo Regional program seeks to mitigate increasing commuting challenges amid declining local job opportunities. Dr. Rodrigo Alda, Rector of Universidad Católica del Norte, emphasized the significance of the recent signing, marking a milestone in the project’s continuity since 2020. The employment platform facilitates the alignment of labor supply and demand while generating valuable data to inform public policy initiatives.
Camila Cortés, Regional Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare in Antofagasta, underscored the program’s goal of prioritizing local candidates for job placements. She emphasized the importance of uniting regional entities responsible for generating significant employment opportunities, collaborating with academia to research and enhance the regional workforce across public and private sectors.
“We must continue our collaborative efforts to reduce unemployment rates and commuting challenges, continuously enhancing human capital in the Antofagasta region. We are encouraged by the commitment of our partner companies to sustain this vital program, which holds profound importance for regional development and the well-being of all Antofagasta residents,” stated Cortés.
