WACKER, a pioneer in silicone technologies, heralded a significant step forward with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new production site in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. This facility marks a strategic move to bolster its position as a leading manufacturer of silicone specialties in Europe. Executive Board member Christian Kirsten emphasized the pivotal role of Karlovy Vary, stating, “It will serve as a cornerstone for our silicone activities, reinforcing our commitment to delivering tailored solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
The demand for customized silicone elastomers, driven by megatrends like electromobility and renewable energies, underscores the necessity for advanced production capabilities. Kirsten highlighted, “Our investment in Karlovy Vary prepares us to meet the escalating demand for innovative silicone solutions over the long term.”
Strategically located to complement existing facilities in Burghausen and Nünchritz, Germany, the Karlovy Vary site enhances operational flexibility and strengthens WACKER’s ability to serve global markets. Kirsten added, “The integration of Karlovy Vary into our European production network will enable us to enhance efficiency and responsiveness to customer needs.”
Initially focusing on room-temperature-curing specialty silicones, with plans to expand into high-temperature-curing silicone compounds, the Karlovy Vary site represents a substantial investment in the low triple-digit million euro range. It is anticipated to create approximately 200 jobs by 2028, with further expansion anticipated in subsequent years. Once operational, the site aims to produce over 20,000 metric tons of customized silicones annually, with initial production expected by the end of 2025.
The selection of Karlovy Vary was driven by its strategic advantages, including proximity to key markets, competitive energy costs, and access to a skilled workforce. Collaborating with U.S. real estate developer Panattoni for construction oversight and Czech real estate group Accolade for property ownership, WACKER is poised to realize its vision of advancing silicone innovation from the heart of Europe.
