Compass Minerals (NYSE: CMP), a leading global provider of essential minerals, has appointed Jeffrey Cathey as its new chief financial officer (CFO), the company announced today. Cathey, who joined Compass Minerals in December 2023 as chief accounting officer, will oversee all aspects of financial management including accounting, reporting, tax, internal audit, treasury, financial planning and analysis, and investor relations.
Edward C. Dowling Jr., president and CEO of Compass Minerals, emphasized Cathey’s strategic fit with the company’s focus on enhancing value through its core Salt and Plant Nutrition businesses. “Jeff is a proven leader with a track record of building and enhancing financial organizations and systems throughout his career. His expertise aligns closely with our current priorities and our future ambitions,” Dowling stated. “I am confident that his leadership as CFO will strengthen our efforts in cost management, debt reduction, and overall financial performance.”
Cathey brings more than 15 years of financial leadership experience in both public and private companies to his new role. Prior to joining Compass Minerals, he held increasingly responsible positions at Crestwood Equity Partners LP, where he most recently served as principal accounting officer. His earlier career includes roles at Shamrock Trading Corporation and Ernst & Young LLP.
Educationally, Cathey holds Bachelor of Science degrees in finance and accounting, as well as a Master of Science degree in accounting from Kansas State University. He is a certified public accountant.
Cathey succeeds Lorin Crenshaw, who served as Compass Minerals’ CFO since December 2021. As part of the transition, Crenshaw has departed the company immediately to pursue other opportunities. Dowling expressed appreciation for Crenshaw’s contributions during his tenure and wished him continued success in his future endeavors.
