At the 2024 ICIS Innovation Awards, Wanhua Chemical Group secured finalist positions for two groundbreaking solutions: the Re-generated Polyether Polyol from Recycled Polyurethane Rigid Foam (Product Innovation Award) and the Hehai Heat Integration Project (Process Innovation Award). These advancements emphasize Wanhua Chemical’s leadership in sustainable technology and its active role in environmental conservation.
Re-generated Polyether Polyol from Recycled Polyurethane Rigid Foam
Wanhua Chemical has developed an advanced method for recycling polyurethane rigid foam waste, primarily from old refrigerators and freezers. The process recovers and purifies the foam, achieving complete degradation and regeneration. The resulting polyether polyol performs on par with petroleum-based alternatives, offering high-quality recycled material that aligns with the industry’s push for sustainability. Every ton of recycled foam prevents the release of 3 tons of CO2, significantly slashing its environmental footprint.
Wanhua Chemical – Hehai Heat Integration Project
Launched in late 2023, this project transforms low-grade industrial waste heat into high-grade heat sources, delivering clean energy to both residential and industrial sectors. So far, the initiative has provided coal-free heating for 10 million square meters of residential space in Yantai. When fully operational, it will cover 76 million square meters, reducing annual CO2 emissions by 2.86 million tons. The Hehai project is a bold step in Wanhua’s journey toward cutting carbon emissions and improving air quality.
These nominations highlight Wanhua Chemical’s commitment to innovation and leadership in global sustainability, setting new standards for the chemical industry’s future.
