The company’s 2030 Sustainability Goals are pivotal in driving its initiatives, particularly in addressing Climate Change. Trinseo is actively pursuing decarbonization strategies, exploring renewable energy opportunities, and implementing clean power electrification across its operations. In pursuit of reducing Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Trinseo conducted energy assessments at multiple global facilities to identify prospects for integrating physical renewable energy sources.
Managing Scope 3 GHG emissions is also a priority, underscored by the establishment of a Scope 3 Council responsible for overseeing comprehensive GHG emission inventory calculations. This initiative aims to provide a thorough understanding of Trinseo’s environmental footprint, validated through third-party assessments.
“Sustainability is integral to Trinseo’s strategic framework and a fundamental element of our future,” affirmed Francesca Reverberi, Senior Vice President of Engineered Materials and Chief Sustainability Officer. “From our boardroom to our operations, everyone is deeply engaged in our journey to foster a sustainable workforce, reduce our carbon impact, promote circular value chains, and operate with accountability.”
Key highlights from Trinseo’s 14th annual Sustainability Report include advancements in recycling technologies. The company launched a pilot polycarbonate dissolution facility in Terneuzen, The Netherlands, and initiated construction on a polymethyl methacrylate depolymerization plant in Rho, Italy. These innovations complement existing recycling methods and contribute towards enhancing material circularity.
Furthermore, Trinseo expanded its 2030 Sustainable Workforce Goals to foster inclusivity, talent development, and workplace safety. These goals serve as a guiding vision for recruiting, nurturing, and retaining a diverse and skilled workforce.
