Tennant Company, a global leader in cleaning solutions, has introduced the lithium-ion-powered versions of its widely recognized T12 and T16 floor scrubbers. This new product innovation aligns with Tennant’s ongoing mission to support its customers’ productivity and sustainability goals. By incorporating advanced lithium-ion battery technology, these scrubbers are designed to offer greater operational efficiency while simultaneously reducing environmental impact, delivering significant improvements to both cleaning performance and sustainability in industrial and commercial environments.
“These new models support our mission to create a cleaner, safer, and healthier world by empowering cleaning teams to work more safely and efficiently,” stated Tennant.
The addition of lithium-ion batteries to the T12 and T16 models delivers substantial benefits over traditional lead-acid batteries. Dennis Collins, the Product Portfolio Director at Tennant, explained that lithium-ion batteries are not only more energy-efficient, reducing energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions, but they also offer a longer lifespan and lower maintenance needs. “With the addition of lithium-ion battery technology, the T12 and T16 scrubbers deliver trusted Tennant performance with significant added benefits,” Collins said.
One of the standout features of these new models is their extended runtimes, which range from over three hours to nearly six hours, depending on the battery option chosen. This enhanced runtime is made possible by the high-capacity lithium-ion batteries, which outperform the standard lead-acid batteries typically used in cleaning equipment. As a result, operators can clean larger spaces without worrying about battery depletion, ensuring more consistent performance over longer periods. This is particularly beneficial for large-scale operations or facilities where extended cleaning periods are necessary.
Tennant’s integration of lithium-ion technology is in direct alignment with its sustainability framework, “Thriving People. Healthy Planet.,” which aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its operations and supply chain by 2040. The company has identified six key impact areas to focus on, including energy efficiency and climate. By prioritizing sustainability in its product designs, Tennant continues to offer solutions that contribute to reducing emissions from cleaning operations. This includes developing battery-powered scrubbers like the T12 and T16, which offer a host of operational and environmental benefits.
Key benefits of the new lithium-ion-powered scrubbers include:
- Improved Uptime: Lithium-ion batteries allow for “opportunity charging,” meaning users can charge the scrubbers anytime, even if the battery isn’t fully discharged. This flexibility helps extend the overall uptime of the equipment, ensuring it is always ready for use when needed without the risk of degrading the battery.
- Simplified Operations: Unlike traditional batteries that require regular maintenance, such as watering, lithium-ion batteries are maintenance-free. This simplifies training for operators, reduces the risk of misuse, and lowers the overall maintenance burden for businesses.
- Reduced Costs: Lithium-ion batteries have a longer lifecycle, with the potential for over 2,000 charge cycles. This longer lifespan results in lower battery replacement costs and reduces the operational costs associated with battery maintenance.
- Reduced Environmental Impact: Lithium-ion batteries are more energy-efficient, leading to lower overall energy consumption and fewer greenhouse gas emissions. This helps customers meet their sustainability goals by reducing the environmental footprint of their cleaning operations.
“These new models represent a significant step in our journey to reinvent how the world cleans,” said Collins. “By incorporating lithium-ion technology, we can offer our customers a cleaner, safer, and more efficient way to tackle their cleaning challenges, all while supporting sustainability.”
The new lithium-ion-powered T12 and T16 scrubbers will be available for purchase starting December 10, 2024. For more information on Tennant’s sustainable cleaning solutions, including the benefits of lithium-ion technology, visit Tennant’s website.
