PPG Recognized as ‘Exceptional Workplace’ by Gallup for Fourth Consecutive Year
Global paints, coatings and specialty materials company PPG has once again been recognized for its strong workplace culture, earning the prestigious Gallup Exceptional Workplace Award (GEWA) for the fourth consecutive year. The recognition, presented by the global analytics and advisory firm Gallup, celebrates organizations around the world that have successfully built highly engaged and high-performing workplace cultures.
The award highlights companies that set the benchmark for employee engagement and organizational performance. According to Gallup, recipients of the Exceptional Workplace Award consistently demonstrate a commitment to developing workplace environments where employees feel valued, motivated and empowered to contribute to business success.
Ryan Bortel, global head of talent at PPG, said the recognition reflects the dedication and engagement of employees across the organization.
“Earning the Gallup Exceptional Workplace Award for the fourth consecutive year is a powerful reflection of the culture our people continue to bring to life every day,” Bortel said. “At PPG, our employees are the driving force behind our success, and this recognition underscores their commitment to innovation, engagement and operational excellence across our global organization.”
In 2025, PPG achieved record-setting employee engagement results, the highest since the company began participating in Gallup’s workplace engagement survey in 2014. The company also reported that its frontline employees recorded the highest engagement levels in the organization’s history for the second year in a row. These results indicate strong alignment between leadership, workforce priorities and the company’s long-term strategy.
Throughout the year, PPG implemented several initiatives aimed at strengthening its organizational culture and fostering collaboration across its global workforce. One of the key efforts involved engaging more than 38,000 employees through workshops, interviews, surveys and focus groups. These activities helped gather employee insights and feedback, which were used to shape workplace behaviors, expectations and cultural priorities for the future.
Community engagement has also remained a key pillar of the company’s culture. Through the COLORFUL COMMUNITIES program, PPG employees volunteered their time to help improve public spaces around the world. In 2025 alone, the company completed 43 Colorful Communities projects in 23 countries, with volunteers helping to transform schools, community centers and other public spaces using PPG’s paints and coatings.
Leadership development has been another area of focus for the organization. Over the past year, more than 6,300 leaders participated in leadership development programs designed to strengthen management capabilities and improve team performance. Additionally, more than 200 frontline leaders received specialized training across 17 priority manufacturing plant locations to help enhance leadership skills and operational efficiency.
PPG also expanded its plant and manufacturing onboarding program to ensure a more consistent and effective experience for new employees. The program now operates at 85 sites across four global regions, helping new hires integrate quickly into their roles while maintaining high safety, quality and productivity standards.
Employee inclusion and connectivity across regions remain central to PPG’s workplace strategy. The company’s eight Employee Resource Networks connect more than 8,000 employees in over 60 countries. These networks provide platforms for professional development, mentoring, collaboration and cultural exchange, helping employees build relationships and share experiences across the organization’s global footprint.
Gallup’s research on employee engagement is considered one of the most comprehensive workplace studies ever conducted. Its meta-analysis includes data from more than 3.3 million employees across 347 organizations in 53 industries and 90 countries. The research examines the relationship between employee engagement and key business outcomes such as productivity, retention, customer satisfaction and profitability.
Companies that earn the Gallup Exceptional Workplace Award demonstrate consistently high engagement levels and effective strategies for building thriving workplace cultures. These organizations often show stronger business performance and resilience in competitive global markets.
PPG’s continued recognition underscores its ongoing efforts to prioritize people, culture and leadership development while maintaining strong operational performance.
