PPG and Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP) have completed a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project that transformed Escola Municipal Professor Luiz Carlos Maiola Covre, a school in Jacareí, Brazil. The initiative involved 150 volunteers from PPG, AMP, and local school and community members, with support from the City of Jacareí and the Municipal Department of Education.
As part of PPG’s COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® program, volunteers revitalized classrooms, the lunchroom, and the schoolyard using over 320 gallons (1,200 liters) of RENNER® paints by PPG. PPG color experts conducted studies to ensure the use of joyful and vibrant colors, creating an inviting and stimulating learning environment for the students. In addition to repainting, the volunteers also worked on enhancing the school’s vegetable garden.
“It’s very gratifying to know that students will return to a colorful and welcoming school, where the atmosphere promotes learning and sociability,” said Elisângela Matos, sustainability manager at Ardagh. “This project reinforces our commitment to supporting the education and development of children and teens in the region, aligning with Ardagh’s global policy of social sustainability.”
The school, which serves 569 students in kindergarten and elementary education, had not been renovated for many years and previously served as a center for adult education with a drab color scheme. The renovation aimed to brighten the space with playful elements and vibrant colors to foster an environment where students feel supported and excited to learn.
Malesia Dunn, Executive Director of the PPG Foundation and Corporate Global Social Responsibility, expressed her appreciation for the collaboration: “It’s always a pleasure when we partner with our customers to support community projects. Colorful Communities is a testament to how we can positively impact school environments while protecting and beautifying spaces with the help of PPG products and volunteers.”
The Colorful Communities program, PPG’s flagship initiative, is designed to protect and beautify the communities where PPG operates. Since its launch in 2015, the program has completed over 500 projects, benefiting more than 8.2 million people across 50 countries. Through the program, PPG volunteers contribute their time and paint products to enhance community assets, from painting schools to redesigning public spaces.
In 2023, PPG’s global community engagement efforts and the PPG Foundation invested more than $17.5 million in projects supporting organizations in nearly 40 countries. The company’s initiatives focus on educational opportunities to nurture the next generation of STEM innovators and skilled workers, while also empowering employees to make a difference in causes they care about through volunteering and charitable giving.
