In October, the Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG Group) launched new grades of BENEBiOL™, a biomass-based polycarbonatediol with increased biomass content. These latest versions will be featured in a panel display at the 4th Sustainable Material Expo, taking place at Makuhari Messe from October 29 to 31, 2024.
BENEBiOL™, developed by MCG Group, is the world’s first biomass-based polycarbonatediol of its kind, primarily used as a key raw material in polyurethane resins. Compared to traditional petroleum-based products, incorporating biomass components gives the polyurethane resins enhanced properties such as flexibility, chemical resistance, stain resistance, and a unique tactile quality. These resins are commonly applied in automotive coatings, furniture, outdoor products, and synthetic leather.
While the biobased content of previous BENEBiOL™ grades ranged from 20% to 50%, the newly introduced HSS and NLDS grades achieve over 80% biobased content. Additionally, several former petroleum-derived grades have been converted to biomass-based versions (NLS grades), making bio-grade options available across the entire BENEBiOL™ lineup. This shift to biomass-based raw materials without compromising quality helps support sustainable manufacturing initiatives.
Through the development of BENEBiOL™, the MCG Group is dedicated to delivering high value-added products and advancing sustainable practices in the industry. The company aims to contribute to building a more sustainable society by driving the adoption of eco-friendly materials.
