PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR) to explore marketing opportunities and sales strategies for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This collaboration aims to strengthen the petrochemical and fuel sectors while supporting Thailand’s sustainable aviation industry.
GC is committed to becoming a low-carbon organization, targeting net greenhouse gas emissions reduction to zero by 2050. This initiative is part of a broader strategy that integrates the Circular Economy approach into its business model. As part of this commitment, GC has developed sustainable product innovations, including utilizing used cooking oil (UCO) and combining advanced refining technology with SAF, which is recognized as a renewable energy source with a low carbon lifecycle to help mitigate environmental impact.
Meanwhile, OR aims to position itself as an Energy Solution Provider focused on reducing environmental impacts through fuel development, including expanding into the aviation sector. SAF can be blended with conventional jet fuel without requiring modifications to aircraft engines, similar to mixing ethanol with gasoline or biodiesel with diesel. This advancement supports both domestic and international airlines in adopting SAF and aligns with the goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.
Mr. Narongsak Jivakanan, CEO of GC, emphasized that GC, as a leader in the chemical industry, is well-equipped in terms of infrastructure and expertise in oil refining. The company is enhancing its refinery capabilities to produce sustainable aviation fuel from used vegetable oil. He noted that the collaboration with OR, a leader in aviation fuel marketing and distribution in Thailand, presents both opportunities and challenges in pioneering commercial SAF products for the Thai aviation sector.
Mr. Disatat Panyarachun, CEO of OR, stated, “In this partnership, OR, as the leading distributor of aviation fuel in Thailand, is dedicated to sharing knowledge and expertise with GC, a global leader in sustainable chemical operations. Together, we will explore and implement sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) derived from GC’s Co-Processing process within the aviation industry. This initiative will encourage both domestic and international airlines to utilize SAF, reducing environmental impacts and aligning with Thailand’s Net Zero target by 2065 while adhering to ICAO and IATA standards in the future. Additionally, this collaboration aligns with OR’s policy of becoming an energy solution provider to foster a sustainable future together.”
By combining their strengths, GC and OR aim to enhance their potential and competitiveness, promoting stable and sustainable growth within the PTT Group. This partnership also focuses on efficient management across the value chain to meet market demands for environmental responsibility.
