DuPont (NYSE: DD) announced today that it has been honored with two 2024 R&D 100 Awards in the Mechanical/Materials category. These awards, sponsored by R&D World Magazine, recognize the 100 most innovative technologies of the past year.
“We’re extremely proud that our innovative solutions continue to be recognized for their transformative impact on our customers and society,” said Alexa Dembek, DuPont’s Chief Technology & Sustainability Officer. “These awards affirm that our strategic investments in areas like advanced mobility and sustainable construction are driving growth. They also highlight the dedication of our teams to staying at the forefront of innovation, helping our customers tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges.”
DuPont’s award-winning innovations for 2024 include:
BETAFORCE™ Elastic Structural Adhesive: This adhesive is designed for a wide range of applications in EV battery assembly, with a particular focus on pouch cell bonding. BETAFORCE™ stands out from other adhesives due to its ability to bond aluminum laminated film substrates without the need for primers or pretreatment. Its elastic properties enhance durability and crashworthiness, protecting the cells during vehicle operation and charging. Additionally, BETAFORCE™ offers sustainability benefits through its formulation, which includes 30% renewable and bio-based materials, and its room temperature curing capabilities that eliminate the need for high-temperature ovens. The adhesive also provides excellent open and working times, is hydrophobic, and offers good flammability resistance, making it ideal for all battery cell applications, especially for pouch cell batteries used increasingly in electric vehicles.
Tyvek® Trifecta™ A2 Breather Membrane: This product sets a new standard for safety and performance as a reliable A2 fire-rated breather membrane. Installed on the exterior side of insulation, it allows water vapor to escape without requiring ventilation. Tyvek® Trifecta™ is specially designed with non-combustible materials for use in high-rise and high-risk commercial and residential buildings over 18 meters tall. When combined with AirGuard® A2 FR Tape, it creates a fire-retardant system that meets the United Kingdom’s stringent building regulations for fire safety. The patent-pending design also offers a significantly lighter weight and longer UV resistance, making installation easier.
Celebrating its 62nd year, the R&D 100 Awards are often referred to as the “Oscars of Innovation,” recognizing the top technological products and services each year. In 2024, the awards received entries from 16 countries and regions, with nominations evaluated by 56 respected industry professionals from around the world.
