CompuCycle Enhances Plastics Recycling Capacity

CompuCycle, a leader in sustainable IT asset recycling, has announced a significant expansion of its Plastics Recycling System, positioning itself as the first certified, single-solution e-waste recycling company in the United States. This expansion enables CompuCycle to process e-waste plastics down to single polymers, making them suitable for reuse in manufacturing processes. This move establishes an environmentally sustainable closed-loop system.

Effective immediately, CompuCycle becomes the sole provider in the United States offering businesses a comprehensive recycling solution for both metals and plastics in-house, adhering to the rigorous standards of Environmental Protection Agency’s e-Stewards and R2 certifications without utilizing further downstreams.

Kelly Adels Hess, CEO of CompuCycle, highlighted the significance of comprehensive electronics management for sustainability and environmental stewardship. She stated, “Producing single polymer plastics that original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can reuse aligns with international recycling standards, marking a transformative step for domestic and global companies alike.”

The Organisation for Co-Operation and Economic Development’s 2022 report underscores a critical issue: 72% of plastics end up in landfills or the environment, with only 9% recycled and 19% incinerated. CompuCycle’s enhanced Plastics Recycling Program aims to drastically reduce e-waste, promoting a circular economy that minimizes reliance on finite resources. This initiative also supports OEM sustainability targets and sets a benchmark in e-waste recycling practices.

Clive Hess, President of CompuCycle, emphasized the innovative approach, stating, “By pioneering the first domestic, sustainable, single-solution e-waste plastics program, we are tackling an industry challenge head-on. This advancement not only reduces environmental impact but also incentivizes companies to embrace recycling and reuse, benefiting all stakeholders.”

CompuCycle’s commitment to advancing sustainable practices in IT asset recycling reinforces its leadership role in fostering environmental responsibility and promoting a circular economy ethos within the electronics industry.
