Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT) today announced the launch of its new REPLASBLAK® universal circular black masterbatches featuring certified sustainable materials. This launch includes two groundbreaking products, the industry’s first universal circular black masterbatches with International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS) certified content. Powered by EVOLVE® Sustainable Solutions, these masterbatches deliver high performance, quality, and reliability for certified circular solutions at scale, meeting the demands of the plastics industry.
As the world transitions towards a lower carbon future, there is a growing need for advanced sustainable solutions that support a circular economy and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Automotive plastic compounders and converters are increasingly seeking third-party certified black masterbatch products that utilize circular value chains and recycled feedstocks. Cabot’s new universal circular black masterbatches, made from mechanically recycled polymer, are designed to meet these needs. They provide ISCC PLUS certified single masterbatches suitable for a variety of automotive applications, including coloring polyolefins and many engineering plastics.
The two new products, REPLASBLAK® reUN5285 and REPLASBLAK® reUN5290 universal circular black masterbatches, enhance Cabot’s well-established range of universal black masterbatches known for their ability to color a wide range of polymers. These sustainable solutions offer superior versatility by allowing the use of a single masterbatch at a low addition rate, improving material management efficiency in the manufacturing process. Both grades provide high gloss and high jetness pigmentation, offering excellent color performance and mechanical properties similar to standard universal black masterbatches. These attributes make the products ideal for various automotive applications, including interiors, exterior parts, and under-the-hood components.
- REPLASBLAK reUN5285: Contains 45% ISCC PLUS mass balance certified material from mechanically recycled polymer. It is suitable for automotive compounding applications.
- REPLASBLAK reUN5290: Contains 20% ISCC PLUS mass balance certified material from mechanically recycled polymer. It is suitable for automotive compounding, direct injection molding, and sheet extrusion applications.
“Building upon our pioneering role as the first global black masterbatch manufacturer to offer a universal grade, we are excited to expand our universal black masterbatch portfolio with our new REPLASBLAK circular masterbatches featuring ISCC PLUS certified content,” said Jeff Zhu, executive vice president and president of Carbon & Silica Technologies, Battery Materials, and Asia Pacific Region. “By aligning with third-party certifications like ISCC PLUS, our customers have the validation they need to ensure the integrity and performance of our global supply chain as they progress toward their sustainability targets and ambitions. The introduction of our new products underscores our unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable materials innovation and developing novel solutions that pave the way for a more sustainable future.”
