Borouge Plc, a leading petrochemical company known for its advanced polyolefin solutions, has announced a AED 20 million agreement with Union Pipes Industry (UPI), a prominent UAE-based manufacturer. Under this agreement, Borouge will supply UPI with 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) polypropylene, which will be used to produce customized pallets for Borouge’s global logistics operations.
Borouge serves clients in over 50 countries across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, offering innovative solutions that address global challenges such as climate change, food waste, water scarcity, and energy transition. Khalfan Mohamed AlMuhairi, Senior Vice President of Borouge MEAE, emphasized that this partnership with UPI highlights Borouge’s commitment to enhancing recyclability and promoting the use of recycled polypropylene across various industries. Recycling and sustainability are central to Borouge’s long-term strategy, and the company is championing circular business models through national and global collaborations.
Qassim Abdulrahman Al Sharafi, Chairman of UPI, praised the partnership, which has lasted over 25 years, for supporting local economic growth. He expressed excitement over contributing to the circular economy and reducing plastic waste.
As part of the agreement, Borouge will supply high-quality recyclates to UPI, who will work with partners Qonexa and Intraco Pallet to produce durable, sustainable pallets for Borouge’s logistics. These plastic pallets offer a longer lifespan, improved hygiene, and enhanced safety compared to traditional pallets, supporting the circular economy by reducing waste.
Borouge’s sustainability efforts include a pledge to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2045, with interim goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 25% and energy intensity by 30% by 2030. The company continues to invest in solutions that reduce dependence on fossil fuels and promote a more sustainable future.
