Borouge and Borealis Unveil Innovative Solutions at Wire China 2024

Borouge Plc, a leading petrochemicals company known for its innovative polyolefins solutions, has announced its participation alongside Borealis at Wire China 2024, one of the largest trade fairs for the wire and cable industry.

Recently, Borouge received the prestigious Ringier Technology Innovation Award for its Borlink™ LS4201S product. This recognition highlights the product’s exceptional performance in cross-linkable polyethylene (XLPE) insulation for power cables with rated voltages up to 230kV. The award underscores Borouge’s commitment to developing high-quality, innovative solutions within China.

“The wire and cable industry is essential to driving the transition towards a low-carbon, sustainable future. Borouge works closely with customers and value chain partners both in China and globally to create solutions that enhance energy efficiency, promote renewable energy adoption, and reduce carbon footprints,” said Jianwei Dong, Senior Vice President, Asia North, Borouge. “Receiving this innovation award for Borlink™ LS4201S reflects our dedication to producing high-performance energy solutions.”

Growth in China

With over 25 years of success in China, Borouge has contributed to numerous infrastructure projects. Through Borealis’ Borlink™ technology, the company has been instrumental in high-voltage electricity transmission, including the Jiangsu Rudong offshore wind project. Borouge’s achievements include supporting China’s first 500kV underground cable project in Guangzhou and developing the world’s first 3-core 500kV submarine cables for offshore wind applications in Yangjiang.

Borlink™ LS4201S facilitates long-run extrusions for submarine cables, contributing to projects like Huizhou Port’s Offshore Wind Farm, the first million-kilowatt wind power base in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Borouge and Borealis plan to expand cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) supply in China, supporting the nation’s growing offshore wind sector and energy transition.

Expanding XLPE Production

Borouge is enhancing its production capabilities with the Borouge 4 project, scheduled for completion in 2025. This expansion will increase production capacity to 6.4 million tonnes per year, including a dedicated plant for XLPE materials, expected to produce 100,000 tonnes annually for the wire and cable market. The Borouge 4 complex, now over 70% complete, will make Al Ruwais the world’s largest single-site polyolefin complex, further strengthening Borouge’s capacity to serve major markets like China.

Celebrating 60 Years of Excellence

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Borouge and Borealis providing top-tier polyolefin compounds to the global wire and cable industry. Since the 1960s, Borealis has pioneered materials that improve the performance, reliability, and efficiency of power transmission and communication networks, and Borouge has applied this expertise to meet the demands of growing markets in Asia and the Middle East.

Showcasing Innovation at Wire China 2024

At Wire China 2024, Borouge and Borealis will showcase their Borlink™, Borstar®, and DYM product portfolios, which offer superior performance and sustainability for various wire and cable applications. Borouge will also emphasize its customer-centric approach, offering tailored solutions and technical support to meet the specific needs of its clients.
