Bio-Gene Technology Limited, an Australian company focused on the development of next-generation bio-insecticides, is collaborating with Envu to evaluate Flavocide™ for use in professional pest control and public health products aimed at mosquito management.
Envu, a global leader in environmental science, specializes in innovative solutions to manage turf insects, weeds, and diseases that pose risks to public health and the environment. With a commitment to nature-positive innovation through its ESG pillars, Envu sees Flavocide—a nature-identical compound—as a valuable addition to its pest and mosquito management portfolios.
The partnership brings together Bio-Gene’s expertise in discovery and development with Envu’s formulation capabilities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Flavocide. The two companies have already successfully tested several Flavocide formulations against mosquitoes and will continue exploring its potential across various professional applications for public health pest control.
Tim Grogan, President and CEO of Bio-Gene, stated, “Our collaboration with Envu broadens the potential for Flavocide to be utilized in key global markets for mosquito control within professional pest management and public health sectors. Envu’s leadership in developing and commercializing novel, sustainable mosquito control products makes them an ideal partner. This program aligns with our strategy of engaging strong partners to maximize the opportunities presented by our technologies.”
Bernard Jacqmin, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Innovation at Envu, added, “We are excited to work with Bio-Gene in formulating and evaluating Flavocide for mosquito management. Derived from nature, Flavocide has shown a promising profile for mosquito control in testing so far. Our joint efforts are already yielding positive results, and we are optimistic about the potential benefits for consumers and professionals.”
Flavocide is a nature-identical product synthesized from flavesone, a compound found in certain eucalyptus trees. Bio-Gene has developed a proprietary process to produce this molecule in commercial quantities.
With its new mode of action—how an insecticide affects or kills insects—Flavocide is capable of overcoming resistance that mosquitoes have developed to existing insecticides. Resistance to current products makes controlling the spread of serious diseases like malaria, dengue fever, and Zika virus increasingly difficult. New insecticides with different modes of action are essential to ensure global food security and public health.
Bio-Gene is advancing Flavocide as a solution to the significant global challenge of insecticide resistance, with applications in public health, crop protection, grain storage, and consumer products.
Currently, Bio-Gene and Envu are exploring the potential for incorporating Flavocide into Envu’s commercial product lineup. Any future developments or licensing agreements will be jointly announced by the two companies.
