BASF’s Chemically Recycled Ultramid® Supports TE’s Sustainability Goals

Chemically At CHINAPLAS 2025, TE Connectivity (TE) and BASF will jointly introduce a new TE automotive connector with components made from BASF Ultramid® Ccycled® polyamide, a circular solution with an attributed share of pyrolysis oil originating from Asia-sourced post-consumer plastic waste. Through the mass balance approach, Ultramid Ccycled offers the same identical high-performance properties as virgin fossil-based materials.

TE and Chemically BASF’s long-standing partnership is based on a shared vision for a sustainable automotive industry. The automotive connector is an example of how industry collaboration can accelerate the transition toward sustainable material solutions. Together with BASF’s Ultramid Ccycled, TE has successfully integrated materials with a certain portion of recycled material into the connector, achieving the target of reducing fossil resource consumption and product carbon footprint without compromising on quality and performance. In addition, TE is actively expanding the application of BASF’s Ultramid Ccycled in meeting the evolving sustainability demands of the industry.

“TE, a Chemically global technology enterprise in the field of connectivity and sensor solutions, is dedicated to delivering high-quality, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions to its customers. TE always prioritizes technological innovation and sustainable development. The cooperation between TE and BASF not only reduces carbon emissions but also drives material innovation, turning sustainability into a driving force for the enterprise,” said Thomas Shen, Senior Vice President and General Manager of TE’s Automotive business unit in Asia-Pacific.

With chemical recycling, post-consumer plastic waste that is not recycled mechanically for technical or economic reasons is converted into pyrolysis oil. The recycled feedstock is fed into BASF’s production process as a drop-in solution to enable customers’ requirements such as product carbon footprint reduction target and recycled content target. The share of recycled material is attributed to the certified products according to a third-party audited mass balance approach.

“The circular solution Ultramid Ccycled demonstrates BASF’s strong focus on feedstock transformation in its integrated value chains. BASF will continue to explore the use of Ultramid Ccycled in other industry applications, supporting its customers in meeting evolving industry demands,” said Andy Postlethwaite, Senior Vice President, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF.
