Ashland to Unveil New Oral Solid Excipients at CPHI & AAPS

Ashland is set to showcase two innovative life sciences products at major upcoming events: CPHI in Milan (October 8-10, booth 6D20) and AAPS PharmSci 360 in Salt Lake City (October 20-23, booth 1903).

A leader in pharmaceutical ingredients, Ashland offers a broad range of oral solid dose (OSD) components that enhance medication delivery, including both immediate- and time-release agents, as well as advanced film coatings.

At these events, Ashland will introduce Klucel LS™, a new low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC), which is the latest addition to their OSD portfolio. This multifunctional binder and disintegrant is designed for smaller tablet formulations and promises quick disintegration, rapid dissolution, and an anti-capping effect. As a biodegradable, non-microplastic disintegrant, Klucel LS™ also meets the increasing demand for sustainable solutions.

Developed by Ashland, Klucel LS™ benefits from the company’s deep expertise in HPC chemistry. As pioneers in this field, Ashland’s global technical support ensures reliability and consistency in formulation development and supply chain management.

Law emphasized the distinctions between Klucel LS™ and other Klucel products, noting its lower hydroxypropoxy content, which alters its physical and chemical properties. Unlike traditional Klucel grades, which are water-soluble and primarily used as binders, Klucel LS™ absorbs water and swells, enabling rapid tablet disintegration.

In addition to Klucel LS™, Ashland will highlight its ever-expanding portfolio of HPC products, which includes a wide range of CR polymers, binders, and melt binders, such as:

  • Klucel™ GXF, HF, HXF, LF, LXF, MXF, and Xtend HPC (CR polymers)
  • Klucel™ EF, ELF, EXF, and EXF Ultra HPC (binders)
  • Klucel Fusion™ HPC (melt binder)

Ashland is also leading with the reintroduction of the newly-improved Polyplasdone™ LN superdisintegrant, a high-purity crospovidone with low nitrite levels to address nitrosamine concerns. With nitrite levels of no more than 100 ppb, Polyplasdone™ LN is the ideal solution for pharmaceutical companies aiming to reduce the risk of N-nitrosamine formation in oral solid dose formulations.
