Asahi Kasei Engineering Unveils Cloud-Based CAE Solution Platform

Asahi Kasei Engineering Corp. (AEC) has introduced a cloud-based CAE solution platform, offering highly accurate applications designed to predict the crash and impact behavior of polymers.

With the growing use of polymer materials in automobiles and various products, precise simulation of material behavior is crucial for improving product design while significantly reducing development costs and time. Recently, cloud-based high-performance computing (HPC) has gained popularity across industries. As a result, the use of computer-aided engineering (CAE) software on cloud-based HPC platforms, available as software-as-a-service (SaaS), has become more common in material development.

Asahi Kasei, a leading manufacturer of technical polymers, has long provided comprehensive, high-precision support for product design and development through CAE technical services focused on engineering plastics. Building on this expertise, AEC, a subsidiary of Asahi Kasei, has launched the cloud-based “CAE Solution Platform,” offering a range of applications that customers around the world can easily download and use.

One of the key offerings on the platform is the highly accurate polymer material fracture prediction model “i-LUPE.” Polymers, particularly amorphous materials, consist of molecular chains that are intricately entangled. When subjected to impact or force, these chains stretch, leading to the formation of voids and fibrils, which eventually cause the material to fracture. The “i-LUPE” app accurately models this fracture behavior.

Additionally, the platform provides a supporting app for anisotropic materials like fiber-reinforced resins. This mapping tool converts fiber orientation data into material property lists used by “i-LUPE,” allowing for accurate visualization of deformation behavior, aiding in the selection of optimal materials for specific applications.
