Anaergia Joins C$22M JV for Ora Biogas Project in Italy

Anaergia Enters Joint Venture to Develop Major Biomethane Facility in Southern Italy

Anaergia Inc. today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Anaergia S.r.l., has entered into a joint venture agreement with Tozzi Sud S.p.A. and Isolmec Group—two prominent Italian firms with extensive experience in the construction and industrial engineering sectors—to develop and build a new anaerobic digestion facility for BioHold S.r.l. in Basilicata, southern Italy.

The new project, known as Ora Biogas, marks Anaergia’s first collaboration with BioHold, a leading Italian bioenergy platform jointly controlled by Pietro Fiorentini S.p.A. and the Vesper Next Generation Infrastructure Fund. The project represents a significant milestone in Anaergia’s continued expansion within Italy’s growing biomethane sector and underscores the company’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy infrastructure across Europe.

A Flagship Biomethane Facility for Southern Italy

Once completed, the Ora Biogas facility will process a diverse range of agricultural residues and organic by-products to produce renewable biomethane, a clean and low-carbon alternative to fossil natural gas. The plant is projected to generate more than 47,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) per year of biomethane, which will be directly injected into Italy’s national gas distribution network, supporting the country’s decarbonization targets and energy transition strategy.

Construction of the facility is scheduled to begin in early 2025, with commercial operations expected to commence by June 2026. The total value of the joint venture contract is approximately C$22 million, representing a major investment in renewable energy infrastructure for the Basilicata region.

Through this partnership, Anaergia and its Italian counterparts aim to deliver a facility that will not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also create local employment opportunities, promote circular economy principles, and provide a replicable model for sustainable agricultural waste management in southern Europe.

A Strategic Partnership Built on Proven Expertise

The collaboration between Anaergia, Tozzi Sud, and Isolmec brings together a complementary blend of engineering, technological, and construction capabilities. Anaergia contributes its global expertise in anaerobic digestion and renewable gas technologies, while Tozzi Sud and Isolmec bring deep local knowledge and execution capacity across the Italian industrial and construction landscape.

Assaf Onn, Chief Executive Officer of Anaergia, emphasized the importance of this partnership in advancing both the company’s business objectives and the broader environmental goals of the European Union:

Anaergia has an established and growing presence in Italy, where we have built strong relationships with regional partners and authorities. This joint venture demonstrates how our collaborative approach enables us to accelerate project development and deployment timelines. By leveraging our recognized expertise and proven technology solutions, the Ora Biogas project will deliver tangible economic and environmental benefits derived from agricultural residues. We are proud to be part of this important initiative—our first for BioHold—and look forward to contributing meaningfully to Italy’s transition toward renewable gas.

Partners’ Perspectives: A Unified Vision for Sustainability

The joint venture has been met with enthusiasm by Anaergia’s partners, who view the Ora Biogas project as a concrete step forward in Italy’s renewable energy transformation.

Nunzio Perna, Chief Executive Officer of both Isolmec Group and Tozzi Sud, highlighted the industrial group’s dedication to sustainability and innovation:

We are proud to take part in this landmark project alongside experienced partners who share our commitment to technological excellence and sustainability. The construction of the Ora Biogas plant represents a significant advancement toward a more sustainable energy future. It reaffirms our industrial group’s commitment to building innovative infrastructure that supports Italy’s ecological transition and long-term energy independence.

Similarly, Zeno Marani, Biomethane Development Manager at BioHold, expressed confidence in the partnership’s ability to deliver a high-performing and impactful facility:

We are delighted to collaborate with the joint venture of Isolmec, Tozzi Sud, and Anaergia on this important biomethane project. Our organizations bring together complementary strengths in renewable energy development, construction, and technology implementation. I am confident that our collective experience and shared vision will ensure a successful, long-lasting partnership capable of delivering high-value, sustainable energy solutions for Italy and beyond.
