ALPLA Introduces ‘Nice Time’: Public Art Installation Reviving Recyclable Plastics in the Circular Economy

ALPLA, a global leader in innovative packaging solutions and sustainability education through Plastic Reimagined, has launched its latest initiative with the unveiling of “Nice Time,” a public art installation aimed at showcasing the full potential of recyclable plastics within the circular economy. Created in collaboration with artist Hyland Mather, the large-scale three-dimensional artwork adorns a prominent wall in Midtown Atlanta’s Colony Square, specifically at The Grove park on 14th and Juniper Streets. Mather crafted the installation using plastics sourced from Atlanta and recyclable types 1, 2, and 5 collected by ALPLA employees, engaging the community in observing firsthand the principles of circular economy.

Hyland Mather shared the inspiration behind “Nice Time,” stating, “This piece reflects our current era—a time filled with challenges yet marked by human resilience. It embodies hope for a brighter future amidst global concerns and injustices.”

Drawing from a Portuguese saying, Mather continued, “’If you don’t have dogs, you have to hunt with cats,’ illustrating the resourcefulness needed in difficult times. Rethinking our relationship with everyday materials underscores our responsibility to the planet. It’s a call to awaken, appreciate, and foster positive change.”

This interactive artwork extends ALPLA’s ongoing Plastic Reimagined initiative, which educates consumers on practical steps to reduce plastic pollution and promote sustainability. It encourages individuals to adopt habits like effective recycling and creative reuse, empowering them to contribute to a cleaner environment.

Hyland Mather emphasized, “Now is the time to spotlight how small actions—like recycling and repurposing—can collectively shape a brighter future in a world that sometimes feels daunting.”

Billy Rice, Sustainability Manager at ALPLA, expressed pride in Mather’s innovative use of plastics in art, urging others to rethink possibilities and embrace sustainable practices. “ALPLA remains dedicated to advancing the circular economy, leveraging recycled plastics to drive positive change. We invite everyone to join us in creating a more sustainable world.”

“Nice Time” will be on display at Colony Square throughout Summer 2024, inviting viewers to contemplate the transformative potential of recycled materials and their role in building a sustainable future.
