AIS and GC Launch Green University Upvel 3 to Empower Thai Youth and Cut E-Waste

AIS and GC are entering their third year of collaboration to further their environmental and sustainability missions with the “Green University: Throw, Turn, Let the World Remember Upvel 3” project . Held for the third consecutive year, the project aims to raise awareness of the waste problem and its impact on the ecosystem and the environment. The goal is to create a network of green universities through various activities that encourage participation from students, staff, and nearby communities to properly manage electronic waste (E-Waste) and plastic waste. This year, the collaboration has expanded to 50 universities and provides a platform for students to showcase their creativity and compete for scholarships and trophies worth over 100,000 baht to help drive tangible environmental change.

Saichon Sappamakudom, Head of Corporate Communications and Government Affairs at AIS, said, “AIS is honored to partner with GC to continue the ‘Green University: Throw It, Turn It, Let the World Remember’ project for the third consecutive year. This represents another important step in driving environmental awareness in Thailand. Over the past two years, we have witnessed the power of educational institutions and youth across the country, enabling them to collect over 1.6 million pieces of E-waste and used plastic for proper management. This has helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 35 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, equivalent to planting over 3,700 trees. This tangible result inspires us to continue the project.”

This year, we’ve intensified our project efforts, including the “Clean Up for the Planet” mission, which expanded waste management coverage nationwide in collaboration with 50 universities. We’ve also added new activities that give young people the opportunity to showcase their potential and creativity, showcasing business models using electronic and plastic waste. We believe this collaboration will lay a strong foundation for sustainable change in the future.

Mr. Kitchai Chalermsuksan, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Industrial Platform Group, PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited ( GC), said, “The success of the Green University “Throw It, Turn It, Let the World Remember” project over the past two years demonstrates the practical application of the circular economy concept in everyday life. We have reduced plastic and electronic waste from landfills by more than 1 million pieces. This year, we are delighted to extend our collaboration for the third year with 50 universities nationwide under the Green University “Throw It, Turn It, Let the World Remember Upvel 3” project. In addition to the waste collection competition, we also offer a platform for creative activities that allow young people to showcase their potential, network, and be a part of sustainable environmental change. I invite youth across the country to join us in “Upveling Your Mind,” transforming waste into value, and creating a better world together, starting from within the university.”

The “Green University: Leave the Turn, Let the World Remember Upvel 3” project joins in energizing the new generation through 3 missions:

Mission 1: The mission to find a green university with a competition to collect electronic waste and plastic waste by expanding the waste management area to cover the whole country, in collaboration with over 50 universities, inviting students, students, and staff to join together in bringing electronic waste and plastic waste to be discarded at waste collection points within the university. The university that collects the most will be the winner, receiving a financial support of 30,000 baht and an Upcycle trophy.

Mission 2: TikTok clip contest “Green Creator “Throw it away, turn it around, let the world remember” is an individual and team contest. Students can form groups of 3 people from their faculty or university to design a storytelling video clip on the topic “Green Creator, Throw it away, turn it around, let the world remember” to promote the proper disposal of E-Waste and used plastic waste. Win scholarships worth up to 10,000 baht and certificates.

Mission 3, “Waste to Wealth: Business Model Pitching Contest 2025,” has been upgraded with a new activity, giving students from all faculties in the university the opportunity to form teams of 1-5 people (not necessarily from the same university) to present creative business ideas that can be developed further, focusing on creating a positive impact on the waste problem. Win scholarships worth up to 10,000 baht and certificates.

The Green University project, “Throw It Back, Let the World Remember Upvel 3,” is more than just a simple environmental activity. It’s a platform for young people to learn, take action, and create tangible change at both the university and community levels for the future of the world. It combines technology, innovation, and creative ideas to create positive energy in waste management. AIS and GC believe that “sustainability” can only be achieved when everyone participates, and that “difference” can be a force for the future if we start taking action today.

Students, staff, and members of the public interested in the “Green University: Leave, Turn, Let the World Remember Upvel 3” project can follow details, rules, and duration of each activity
