OBIO® and IPON Renew Multi-Year Partnership to Strengthen Ontario’s Sovereign IP Capacity

OBIO® and IPON Renew Multi-Year Collaboration to Advance Ontario’s Sovereign IP Capacity

OBIO® and Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON) have renewed their memorandum of understanding (MOU) to ensure that Ontario’s next generation of companies developing innovative human health products continue to access optimal intellectual property (IP) protection and commercialization support.

Through this agreement, OBIO® and IPON will continue to jointly assist Ontario’s early-stage life sciences and health technology companies with IP development and commercialization strategies. The collaboration builds on an established partnership from 2024, and now qualified OBIO® referrals will be eligible for fast-tracking for IPON’s support and funding. The two organizations have been committed to working together as appropriate to co-host IP capacity‑building events and joint visibility initiatives. Together, early-stage companies in the sector will be well-positioned to build strong IP strategies.

Since its inception in 2009, OBIO® has been dedicated to creating programs for life sciences and health technology companies that strengthen Ontario’s IP, support early-stage companies in achieving procurement within Canadian healthcare systems, attract investment to grow the sector, drive economic development, and protect the province’s self-sufficiency.

IPON is a provincial agency established in 2022 that provides IP support and services to help Ontario businesses and researchers innovate and scale.

This renewed agreement will ensure long‑term alignment on maintaining and strengthening sovereign IP retention.
