Axcend and MassTech Launch Compact LC–MS for On-Site Trace Detection

Axcend and MassTech have announced a collaboration that expands access to compact, high-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) technology for trace-level chemical detection. As part of the agreement, Axcend will offer the MassTech MTE30 mass spectrometer integrated with its Axcend Focus LC® system, creating a streamlined LC–MS platform designed for laboratory, manufacturing, and field-based analytical environments.

The partnership reflects a broader industry movement toward decentralizing analytical capabilities. Traditionally, LC–MS systems have been confined to centralized laboratories due to their size, infrastructure requirements, and operational complexity. By combining compact instrumentation with high-sensitivity detection, Axcend and MassTech aim to make advanced chemical analysis more accessible at or near the point where samples are generated.

At the core of the solution is the Axcend Focus LC, a compact high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system engineered to perform reliable chemical separations while using significantly reduced solvent and sample volumes. Its small footprint and efficient design make it suitable for environments where laboratory space is limited or where mobility and safety considerations are important. These features are particularly valuable in production facilities, satellite laboratories, quality control areas, and other distributed testing locations.

When paired with the MassTech MTE30, the Focus LC becomes part of a fully integrated LC–MS system capable of delivering trace-level detection in space-constrained settings. The MTE30 is designed to provide high-performance mass spectrometric detection while maintaining a compact form factor. This allows users to conduct sensitive chemical analyses without the need for traditional, large-scale laboratory infrastructure.

The combined platform enables organizations to move beyond centralized analytical workflows. Instead of shipping samples to core facilities and waiting for results, scientists and quality professionals can perform testing closer to the source. This proximity can help reduce turnaround times, improve process visibility, and support faster, data-driven decision-making.

The companies will also exhibit the platform at Pittcon, Booth 2825, March 9–11, 2026, in San Antonio.
