SiNAPTIC Technologies, a contract manufacturer dedicated to the development and on-demand production of additive manufactured technical ceramics, is excited to announce that it has received an Early-Stage Capital and Retention Grant from the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) Advanced Industries Accelerator program. This grant will support the development of SiNAPTIC’s printable silicon nitride slurry, with the goal of submitting an FDA Master File.
Bryan Scheer, MD, CEO of SiNAPTIC Technologies, expressed the company’s enthusiasm: “We are passionate about serial production and contract manufacturing of technical ceramics to help customers overcome product design challenges associated with traditional ceramic manufacturing. Upon completing this grant-funded project, we aim to attract innovators interested in licensing our silicon nitride slurry to develop their own medical products, benefiting from the regulatory advantages offered by the Master File.”
The Early-Stage Capital and Retention Grant is designed to support businesses commercializing innovative and disruptive technologies that will be created or manufactured in Colorado. These grants aim to promote the growth and sustainability of advanced industries across the state, driving innovation that advances Colorado’s economy.
SiNAPTIC Technologies has been awarded $250,000 to conduct biocompatibility testing and process validation activities for its printable silicon nitride slurry, paving the way for the submission of an FDA Master File. Additionally, part of the grant will be used to hire and train three Colorado-based technical personnel essential for the development of the Master File and production scale-up. This project will enhance customer access to additively manufactured silicon nitride for medical and industrial applications.
Rama Haris, Advanced Industries Senior Manager at OEDIT, stated, “Across the state, companies are rethinking existing technologies and inventing new ones within the advanced industries sector. Their success will create good-paying jobs in Colorado and has the potential to change lives across the state and beyond. We are thrilled to support their development and look forward to celebrating future accomplishments.”
Hugh Roberts, Chief Operating Officer of SiNAPTIC, highlighted the company’s dual focus: “SiNAPTIC is comprised of two business divisions, SiNAPTIC Technologies and SiNAPTIC Surgical, each with a distinct focus. SiNAPTIC Technologies provides R&D and prototyping through scaled OEM manufacturing, while SiNAPTIC Surgical aims to become an FDA-registered, fully integrated original medical device producer. We respond to numerous inquiries from OEMs across various industries, supporting them with ceramic 3D printing services—from design and development to prototyping and serial production at an industrial scale.”
Kevin Altman, SiNAPTIC’s Grant Coordinator, added, “The SiNAPTIC team has invested significant time and effort in demonstrating the value that ceramic additive manufacturing can offer to domestic industry. I am elated that we are receiving recognition for our hard work and the innovative potential of our printable silicon nitride through the Early-Stage Capital and Retention Grant.”
