At the 2025 Nobel Sustainability Trust Summit, O.N.E Amazon issued a compelling call to reframe biodiversity as a form of critical global infrastructure, arguing that the stability of economies, climate systems, and societies relies fundamentally on the health of ecological systems such as the Amazon rainforest.
The message emerged from a high-level roundtable moderated by Jill Hudkins, Chief Executive Global Advisory at AECOM. The session brought together prominent figures from conservation, research, environmental policy, and sustainable development, including Gustavo Manrique, President of Sambito and former Minister of Environment of Ecuador; Dr. Richard Hansen, archaeologist and President of the Foundation for Anthropological Research & Environmental Studies (FARES); and Narendra Ramgulam, Deputy Director for Sustainable Tourism at the Caribbean Tourism Organization.
Collectively, the panel underscored a central premise: biodiversity underpins essential systems that the world often takes for granted. From water security and food systems to carbon regulation, economic resilience, and long-term national stability, nature functions as a foundational infrastructure asset. They stressed that addressing modern ecological challenges requires better data, stronger governance mechanisms, and investment models capable of operating at a systemwide scale.
Within this framework, Rodrigo Veloso, CEO of O.N.E Amazon, highlighted the organization’s deployment of the world’s first Internet of Forests (IoF™) as a transformative step toward this vision. Hundreds of sensors, acoustic monitoring devices, soil measurement tools, and advanced imaging systems are now active across regions including Panama’s Darién and Colombia’s Chiribiquete National Park.
If we can measure it, we can value it,” Veloso emphasized. “The Internet of Forests allows us to rebuild nature as core infrastructure and understand biodiversity at a level that finally makes conservation investable.”
Veloso explained that O.N.E Amazon’s model has only become feasible due to a recent confluence of critical enabling factors: new regulatory clarity in the United States, the maturation of blockchain compliance frameworks like ERC-3643, and rapid advances in artificial intelligence capable of interpreting the vast ecological data generated by the IoF™. Together, these developments create the conditions for nature-backed Digital Asset Securities to be launched under full regulatory compliance for the first time.
We can only introduce a fully regulated nature-backed Digital Asset Security today because the regulatory landscape has evolved,” Veloso said. “The work of the Environmental Task Force, the Crypto Task Force, and the direction provided by President Trump’s GENIUS Act have created this opening. Combined with blockchain—especially through the ERC-3643 compliance standard—and with AI, we can finally bring nature into global markets responsibly. True conservation depends on aligning financial incentives with ecological outcomes, ensuring forests are more valuable alive than dead.”
Dennis O’Connell, President of ERC-3643 and Partner/CTO at PSG, noted that O.N.E Amazon’s designation as the first regulated Digital Asset Security under the SEC’s Project Crypto Innovation Exemption marks a major milestone for the future of compliant tokenization in the U.S. and globally.
This demonstrates how global standards for identity, compliance, and investor protection can be effectively applied to real-world assets,” O’Connell said. “It proves that regulated digital infrastructure can deliver meaningful outcomes—here, supporting the protection and economic valuation of one of the planet’s most essential ecosystems. The ERC-3643 Association is proud to recognize O.N.E Amazon as a model for how responsible digital assets should be developed.”
As global policymakers increasingly acknowledge biodiversity as vital infrastructure, O.N.E Amazon is building both the technological backbone and the financial architecture required to protect the Amazon rainforest at a scale consistent with the planet’s needs.
