LyondellBasell (LYB) has announced the commencement of an additional production line at its Dalian site in China, as part of its Advanced Polymer Solutions (APS) business expansion. This move aims to meet the increasing demand for high-quality polypropylene compounds, particularly in the automotive sector. With an annual capacity of 20,000 tonnes, this new line effectively doubles the site’s production capacity, reflecting LYB’s commitment to meeting market demands.
Torkel Rhenman, Executive Vice President of Advanced Polymer Solutions at LyondellBasell, highlighted the rapid growth and transformation of the global automotive industry, particularly in new energy vehicles, where China plays a crucial role. He expressed confidence in APS’s ability to excel in this dynamic market through its enhanced capacity and innovative product offerings.
Rolf van Beeck, Vice President of Advanced Polymer Solutions APAC and AfMEI at LyondellBasell, emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to the Chinese market. He highlighted the potential for growth and reiterated the company’s focus on providing top-notch products and services while promoting circularity through collaborations and their Circulen portfolio.
Brian Jiang, Director of Advanced Polymer Solutions APAC Manufacturing at LyondellBasell, noted that the new production line signifies the Dalian site’s progress in increasing capacity and automation. He expressed optimism that this addition will not only meet the growing demand from local customers but also drive further engagement from colleagues in operating the two production lines effectively.
Since its establishment in 2015, the Dalian site has been capable of producing 80,000 tonnes of PP compounded products at full capacity, serving various end applications in the automotive industry. The APS business currently operates five sites in China, offering a comprehensive portfolio of PP compounding, engineered plastics, and masterbatch products.
