FMC and Corteva Partner to Expand Fluindapyr Fungicide Access for U.S. Growers
FMC Corporation a global leader in agricultural sciences, has announced a landmark strategic agreement with Corteva Agriscience to broaden the availability and adoption of its fluindapyr fungicide technology within the U.S. corn and soybean sectors. This collaboration aims to provide American growers with increased access to innovative disease management solutions at a time when crop protection against aggressive and resistant pathogens is more critical than ever.
Under this new agreement, both companies will be responsible for marketing and distributing fluindapyr-based fungicide products across the expansive U.S. corn and soybean markets, which account for approximately 95 million acres and 80 million acres of cultivated land, respectively. FMC will maintain its ongoing marketing and sales of Adastrio® fungicide and also invest in the development of new fluindapyr-inclusive formulations. Meanwhile, Corteva plans to release a fluindapyr-based fungicide product by the start of the 2026 growing season, contingent on securing regulatory clearance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Fluindapyr is a next-generation fungicide active ingredient that has already demonstrated substantial efficacy in controlling foliar diseases such as tar spot and southern rust, which are significant threats to corn and soybean yields. These diseases not only reduce plant health but can also have severe economic implications for growers if not adequately managed. By enhancing the availability of fluindapyr through dual-channel marketing, FMC and Corteva aim to strengthen disease management efforts and preserve crop yield potential for a broader range of U.S. farmers.
“This strategic partnership is a significant step forward in enhancing crop protection solutions for American growers,” stated Ronaldo Pereira, President of FMC Corporation. “By working with Corteva, we can extend the reach of our groundbreaking fluindapyr technology and ensure that growers have reliable tools to manage increasingly complex disease pressures. The adoption of fluindapyr will contribute to improved crop resilience and yield stability, thereby supporting growers’ economic outcomes.”
Fluindapyr is classified by the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC) as a Group 7 fungicide, placing it within the class of succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors (SDHIs). This mode of action allows fluindapyr to provide robust and prolonged residual disease control. Importantly, its efficacy against pathogens that have evolved resistance to other fungicide classes highlights its value in integrated disease resistance management programs. With resistance issues continuing to jeopardize the effectiveness of many traditional fungicides, introducing new modes of action such as fluindapyr becomes essential.
“Our collaboration with FMC is aligned with our commitment to equipping farmers with superior agronomic tools,” said Jeremy Dirks, President of Corteva North America. “Fluindapyr’s unique properties and proven performance add an important asset to our fungicide portfolio. We are confident that this innovation will empower growers to tackle disease challenges more effectively and with greater long-term sustainability.”
FMC has already made considerable strides in the global deployment of fluindapyr-based products. To date, these formulations have been successfully launched in a variety of international markets, including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, South Korea, and the United States. These international commercializations serve as a testament to fluindapyr’s versatility and performance across diverse agronomic and environmental conditions. Further regulatory filings and product launches are pending in key agricultural markets such as Chile, Honduras, India, and Ukraine. The global expansion strategy underscores the growing demand for modern fungicide solutions capable of addressing evolving disease threats.
Adastrio® fungicide, which contains fluindapyr, has already established itself as a high-performing option for disease control. It is formulated to provide growers with broad-spectrum disease protection, including against major foliar pathogens. Its extended residual activity helps ensure season-long protection, reducing the need for repeated applications and supporting more efficient farm management practices.
The introduction of fluindapyr into Corteva’s product portfolio will further diversify disease management options for corn and soybean growers. Corteva brings strong distribution networks, technical service teams, and an established presence in the row crop sector. Combining these capabilities with FMC’s innovation in fungicide chemistry presents a powerful partnership poised to deliver tangible benefits to the U.S. agricultural community.
The timing of this agreement is particularly relevant as U.S. growers face increasing pressure from unpredictable weather patterns, rising disease incidence, and regulatory scrutiny over pesticide use. Modern fungicide solutions like fluindapyr are critical tools in the ongoing pursuit of sustainable agricultural practices. By offering new options that are both effective and compliant with regulatory standards, FMC and Corteva aim to help growers navigate these challenges while maintaining productivity and environmental stewardship.
As regulatory processes advance, Corteva’s planned fluindapyr-based product launch in 2026 will provide another pivotal moment in the journey toward widespread adoption of this technology. The EPA’s approval process will include comprehensive evaluations of environmental safety, human health impacts, and product efficacy. Once cleared, the product will join Corteva’s extensive lineup of crop protection solutions, complementing existing products and reinforcing the company’s commitment to innovation and stewardship.
The collaboration also reflects broader industry trends toward strategic partnerships and shared technology platforms. As research and development costs rise and regulatory frameworks become more complex, alliances between leading agricultural science companies are becoming increasingly common. These collaborations allow for shared risk, accelerated innovation, and broader market access—ultimately benefiting growers who gain faster access to the latest crop protection technologies.
In summary, the strategic agreement between FMC Corporation and Corteva Agriscience represents a significant milestone in the evolution of modern crop protection. By jointly promoting and distributing fluindapyr fungicide technology, the companies are addressing a pressing need for effective, sustainable disease control in the vast U.S. corn and soybean markets. With enhanced accessibility, stronger resistance management, and a commitment to grower success, fluindapyr is positioned to become a key component in the agricultural toolbox for years to come.
As this collaboration unfolds, U.S. growers can look forward to a future where innovative fungicide technologies play a pivotal role in safeguarding yields, supporting sustainable practices, and meeting the growing global demand for food and agricultural products. The partnership between FMC and Corteva is not just about product distribution—it is a shared vision for the future of farming.
