Alcoa has announced its participation in the World Economic Forum’s First Suppliers Hub, a global initiative aimed at advancing industrial decarbonization by 2050. The hub, a part of the First Movers Coalition (FMC), connects innovative suppliers with companies seeking low-carbon solutions across their value chains.
The First Suppliers Hub serves as a database for suppliers offering products and technologies that meet stringent low-carbon criteria. For aluminum, FMC defines “low-carbon” as less than 3 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per tonne of primary aluminum, measured cradle-to-gate. The initiative allows FMC members to leverage their purchasing power to drive demand for sustainable materials.
Alcoa contributes to this effort through its groundbreaking ELYSIS® technology, which uses inert anode technology to produce aluminum without direct greenhouse gas emissions. When combined with renewable energy and low-carbon alumina, ELYSIS aluminum meets the FMC’s low-carbon criteria. Alcoa is advancing this technology with an industrial-scale demonstration project to meet growing customer demand for sustainable solutions.
Additionally, Alcoa offers its Sustana® product line, including:
- EcoLum® Aluminum, with a carbon footprint one-third the global industry average.
- EcoSource® Alumina, produced with less than half the average emissions of the industry.
- EcoDura® Aluminum, containing at least 50% recycled content.
“By joining the First Suppliers Hub, we are further simplifying options for companies to decarbonize their supply chains,” said Renato Bacchi, Alcoa’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer. “Our technologies and products help bring the world closer to a lower-carbon future.
