Arkema and ProLogium Partner to Develop Next-Generation Lithium Ceramic Battery Materials for E-Mobility

Arkema has been selected by ProLogium, a Taiwanese leader in advanced battery technology, as a crucial development and supply partner for its upcoming gigafactory in France.

On May 14th, Arkema and ProLogium held a letter of intent (LOI) exchange ceremony in Paris. This event marked a significant deepening of their collaboration, which started in 2010, and will intensify with ProLogium’s plan to establish an advanced R&D laboratory in France. This move highlights Arkema’s capability to collaborate with top battery innovators, utilizing its extensive technology suite to create more efficient, safer, and sustainable batteries.

ProLogium recently inaugurated its first giga-level demonstration line in Taiwan, a facility capable of producing up to 2 gigawatt-hours of Lithium Ceramic Batteries, sufficient to power approximately 26,000 cars annually. Their next objective is to construct a gigafactory in Dunkirk, France, which will have the capacity to supply batteries for over 500,000 cars per year.

The French government has pledged to support ProLogium with a subsidy under its “France 2030” plan. Arkema, a key supplier of PVDF for advanced lithium-ion batteries with manufacturing sites in France, the USA, and China, will focus on Kynar® PVDF grades and high-performance materials for ProLogium’s next-generation Lithium Ceramic Batteries. This partnership also aims to leverage Arkema’s comprehensive suite of inside-the-cell technologies.

“As we strive to create a localized value chain, Arkema is an ideal partner to overcome existing technological barriers and achieve innovations, leading to a fundamental transformation in cell structure and process design,” said Vincent Yang, founder and CEO of ProLogium. “Arkema’s industry-leading portfolio of battery material solutions, coupled with their global innovation and manufacturing capability, is essential in helping us develop new battery models that combine performance, cost efficiency, and resource sustainability.”

Arkema expressed excitement about this collaboration, emphasizing their key role in this technological revolution and their pride in offering a broad range of advanced materials, including fluoropolymers.
