To mark its 15th anniversary, the Iquique International Film Festival (FICIQQ) is continuing its regional tour with a special event, “FICIQQ+ Fútbol,” showcasing two films about football.
This family-friendly event features “El niño Tocopilla,” a documentary chronicling the journey of two Tocopilla residents who travel to Milan to watch Alexis Sánchez play, and “Estrellas del Desierto,” an award-winning short film by Iquique director Katherina Harder. The latter, set in the Tarapacá region, follows 12-year-old Antay from the community of Pachica as he witnesses his town’s decline. He and his friends form a small football team to savor their remaining moments of childhood and friendship.
The screenings began on August 10 at the “Remodelación el Morro” neighborhood court (Avda. Arturo Prat with Grumete Bolados), and will continue on August 17 at the Caupolicán neighborhood court (Céspedes and González with Héroes de la Concepción). The tour will conclude on August 31 at the Villa O’Higgins square (Avda. Salvador Allende with Tomás Bonilla) at 6:30 p.m., with each event featuring surprises for attending children.
Elliot Morfi, executive producer of Volcánica Films, expressed enthusiasm about returning to the neighborhoods. “We are delighted to bring these neighborhood cinema events back. For over six years, we’ve used these opportunities to connect with local residents, promote our December event, and provide accessible cultural experiences.”
“FICIQQ+ Fútbol” is part of FICIQQ’s 15th-anniversary celebrations and is supported by SQM Yodo Nutrición Vegetal, in collaboration with the Tocopilla Football Film Festival, the Cultural Donations Law, and the Cultural Corporation of the Chilean Chamber of Construction. The event is produced by Volcánica Films.
Pablo Pisani, Corporate Affairs Manager at SQM Yodo Nutrición Vegetal, emphasized the significance of bringing film to the city’s neighborhoods, noting, “Football has the power to inspire and transform lives. Film offers a platform to convey profound emotions and connect with young people. We are proud to support this impactful initiative, which is now celebrating its 15th year.”
