Toray Honored with Prestigious Award for Promoting Women in Technology

Toray Industries, Inc. proudly announced that its Women’s Advancement Team has been awarded the 10th Annual Achievement Award for the Development of Female Technologists by the Japan Association of Technology Executives. This accolade recognizes the team’s efforts since its establishment in 2014.

The award, supported by the Gender Equality Bureau Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, acknowledges significant contributions to promoting female talent in technology.

The initiative began with seven female executives who launched a voluntary program to train and network female managers from various business units, plants, and research centers across Japan. Initially, the training sessions were exclusively for women, but starting in 2022, the scope was expanded to include male managers. This change aimed to enhance talent development perspectives and foster a gender-neutral management network.

Toray has supported the team’s diverse activities, which include women’s roundtable discussions, awareness surveys, training programs for female managers, online discussions, and workplace initiatives. The team collaborates with the Human Resources Division to integrate frontline insights into personnel and industrial relations policies.

The team’s efforts have been crucial in addressing worksite issues, sharing information, and supporting women across various roles, contributing to improved work-life balance and increased representation of female technologists in managerial positions.

Currently comprising 28 female managers, including 16 technologists, the team continues to focus on advancing younger employees and incorporating feedback from frontline workers.

Toray emphasizes the importance of its people in its success and has made talent development a top priority. The company’s medium-term management program, Project AP-G 2025, includes a commitment to people-centric management, diversity, and inclusion. This approach aims to foster adaptability, rewarding careers, and employee engagement, aligning with Toray’s philosophy of maximizing individual strengths and achieving personal fulfillment.

Looking ahead, Toray plans to build on these achievements by establishing the Human-Centric Management Planning Group. This initiative will further enhance human resources and labor policies, embracing diverse cultural and generational backgrounds to promote vibrant, inclusive workplaces and boost corporate value.
